MACA's Musical Playground

We recently installed some musical playground equipment at Kefauver Park.  The area is wheelchair accessible, and provides a wonderful creative outlet for children. MACA was able to install this equipment with support from Tennessee Arts Commission and the City of Madisonville.

Downtown Madisonville Murals

MACA desires to enhance the local community with original historical works of art created by local artists. Each of the buildings chosen for the project have prominence in the downtown area. The murals will improve the physical attraction to downtown Madisonville. The historical meaning of the murals will promote local culture. MACA hopes to create such energy with this project that the entire community will be connected through the art.

Artist Nathan Brown drew inspiration from local landmarks, the Cherohala Skyway and the waters of East TN, and put his own unique spin on the interpretation, hand-mixing 58 colors to create a gradient wonderland of rolling hills, mountainous shapes and cave-like water features. “Dream Cloud” lives on Danny and Debbie Stricklan’s building at 228 Warren St. just blocks from the Madisonville square.

“Lilies of Devotion”
Located at: 186 Warren Street
Artist Megan Lingerfelt shared her thoughts about the use of different lilies and their meaning, “The Lily of the Valley is part of a nursery rhyme that makes me think of childhood, calla lilies have an elegance that lend themselves to bridal decorations and mid life milestones, and stargazer lilies are a traditional funeral floral and mark the end of life.”

With Matt overseeing the Countertop Division and Allen directing the Monument and Sign Division, the brothers strive for innovation. “The addition of this mural is something we have been contemplating for quite some time, and we feel especially blessed that this opportunity has come our way. Each and every day we have families come to us that are dealing with tremendous grief. They come to us because they need to pick out a memorial for a loved one. Our hope is that by having a beautiful mural on the wall outside, perhaps they will see a little beauty among the darkness of grief and maybe it will make them smile.” (Jennie Nicholson, Office Manager, White’s Marble Works, Inc.)
Allen White worked with the artist, Megan Lingerfelt, to hide images within the mural. Allen shared that having individuals search for these items “would be fun, kinda like Where’s Waldo?”. Be on the lookout for a MACA Mural brochure that will have all the details about these hidden nuggets of art within the mural. Not only did the White’s donate their building wall, they were instrumental in connecting the artist with this project and they matched the grant to help cover the cost of bringing this beautiful mural to Downtown Madisonville.

“Brown Trout”

The Tellico Trout Hatchery is located at 3193 River Rd in Tellico Plains. There is an annual Trout Festival held in Tellico Plains to increase the public’s knowledge of the trout industry in our area.

TWRA’s Tellico Hatchery has a long tradition of providing quality trout fishing opportunities in Monroe County, TN. Tellico Hatchery heavily stocks Tellico River and Citico Creek weekly from March 1 until July 31. Tellico River also has a catch and release season from October 1 until the end of February. Thousands of anglers visit annually to catch their limit and have a shot at a true trophy Brown or Rainbow Trout! In addition, TWRA manages numerous streams in Monroe County for naturally reproducing wild Brown, Rainbow and Brook Trout. Brook Trout are Tennessee’s only native trout and TWRA has worked to protect and restore these heritage trout throughout streams in the Cherokee National Forest. Mr. Ralph Patton is the owner of the building located at 205B Tellico Street and donated the wall for this project!

The artist duo Sarah Painter and Cosby Hayes are based in Tallahassee, Florida. They both attended the College of Fine Arts at Florida State University and have been painting together since 2017. Hayes and Painter’s work focuses on unity and the collective strength we have when we come together for a common cause. It is within this notion of solidarity that their work explores the human condition and social relations between people and their environments.
